Killer of British soldier, Michael Adebolajo, who was found
guilty of murder, has lodged an application to appeal against his conviction. The
soldier, Lee Rigby was killed on the 22nd of May, 2013, in Woolwich,
south-east London, by Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale.
Adebolajo, 29, from Romford, east London, said he was a
“soldier of Allah” and it was an act of war. At the scene of the murder, he yelled
after killing the soldier saying; "We swear by almighty Allah we will
never stop fighting you. The only reason we have done this is because Muslims
are dying every day. This British soldier is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a
tooth."
Also in a police interview, Adebolajo said he had picked
Rigby because he was the first soldier they saw. He was stabbed with knives
including ones bought the day before from Argos. He claimed he targeted the
neck because it was the most humane way to kill someone and added: "So I
struck at the neck and attempted to remove the head."
He and Michael Adebowale, 22, from Greenwich, south-east
London, are currently awaiting sentencing.
In December, an Old Bailey jury of eight women and four men
took approximately 90 minutes to find the men guilty of murdering Lee Rigby.
No date has been set for the court of appeal to consider whether it will hear Adebolajo's attempt to have his murder conviction over turned.
