The
wife of the Governor of Rivers State, Dame Judith Amaechi, visited the
first baby delivered on Christmas Day at the Braithwaite Memorial
Specialist Hospital.
Surprisingly, at the University of
Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital
(UPHTH), Judith Amaechi met three babies, while expecting to see only
one. This year the triplets took the medal of arriving first on
Christmas Day.
Mrs. Amaechi, who also visited orphanage homes, charged Nigerians to cater for the well-being of less privileged children.
She presented cash gifts and other items to the children.
The First Lady of Rivers also restated her determination to provide help to Nigerian children through her non-governmental organisation, the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI).
Gov. Amaechi’s wife, who also spoke during her visit to the chief
medical doctor of UPHTH, Prof. Arron Ojule, said the ESI’s early child
education centre has achieved its set objective and pledges her
determination to improve on the rights of the children.
Judith Amaechi also noted that Christmas symbolises love and peace
and that Nigerians must learn to emulate Christ, whose birth symbolizes
redemption for mankind.
The First Lady of Rivers vowed to ensure that children are given
their pride of place in the policy thrust of Governor Amaechi’s
administration.
