Men of the Ogun State Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, have destroyed 3,000 cartons of frozen chicken whose
Duty Paid Value, DPV, was put at N14. 4 million.

The poultry products (frozen chicken) which were concealed in a truck with number plate LAGOS XV 794 KRD heading to Aba in Abia State was reportedly intercepted by the Federal Patrol team of NCS at Sagamu/Ibadan interchange, along the Lagos – Benin expressway.

Briefing newsmen at the Customs state headquarters in Abeokuta, weekend, Deputy Controller, Joseph Salubiyi said one person has been arrested in connection with the act. frozen chicken
Salubiyi stated that the command would follow the driver to the warehouse where the vehicle was loaded and make further arrest if need be.

The goods were immediately buried at the command office in the presence of other security agencies including men of the Department State Service, DSS.

The driver of the vehicle, Fidelis Okafor, who was arrested along with the contraband, told newsmen that his vehicle was chattered from Iddo motor park in Lagos State for which he charged the owner of the good N150, 000.

Okafor lamented that, though he knew about the content in the vehicle, he agreed to engage in the act following assurances from the owner of the goods that he will settle all charges with relevant security agencies.

He said he collected N50,000 before embarking on the journey hoping to collect N100,000 balance in Aba.
Okafor identified the owner as one Ikegbunam Okechukwu whom he said trades in frozen foods frozen chicken.

The driver said he was to go for his father’s burial today.
He said: “They (Okechukwu) chartered my vehicle in Iddo motor park in Lagos and loaded it at Ikotun and I was taking the consignment to Aba in Abia State.

“I was using the truck to carry another product and I have never carried this type of good before.”
